    "shipping jump"? :D

Anyway, I think the problem is that C.S.J expected at least some of the major changes to appear with this version, but even the faster scan speed couldn't be accomplished. This is quite a disappointment if you ask me. The new heuristic engine is the only attraction, and with the amount of FPs it creates

Anyway, I too am beginning to worry about version 5. Version 5.0 was in discussion at Wilders since 2002, and there was lot of popular rumour that it would be released soon, and in the end, Dr.Web fans got a 4.33 version in 2004, which has lasted till today. I find this release of a version 4.44 to be bad news, because this could mean that this version will also be "holding the fort" for Dr.Web for another 2 years before version 5 releases. I hope this is not the case, but yeah my fingers are crossed.

So, the question is whether the 5.0 version of Dr.Web is vapourware....

LOL.It just an antivirus software. I've been DrWeb user since 1998 so obviously I don't care about GUI at all. If I cared I’d have jumped a ship long time ago.

Rumors, rumors…That’s the problem here. There has been no official word about any upcoming DrWeb version….

All I hope is that they release version 5 complete before 2008, with all the major problems ironed out...I only wish:doubt:

So you're saying that generations into the future, Dr.Web version 5.0 will remain a popular urban legend? :p :D

And I'll be telling my grandson..."You know kid, I first heard about this version 5 when I was ten years old. And I'm still waiting" :p :D :D

Please remember that good or effective technology and a fancy look are two whole different things. Maybe I make the wrong compare but if you look at the best Russian products from the past, a fancy look was never included. Also we (Russians) don't care about it too much, and Dr. Web's main user base is in Russia. Maybe that explains it a little.

Well remember, Frisk skipped numbers 4&5 with their F-Prot. Maybe the next version of DrWeb will be 4.55 then 4.66 and so on…:D

    Hi,
    gui - unimportant
    development, maintenance - important.

as already said 'It just an antivirus software.'

sure, it is still nice they have changed the scanner GUI and added this new heuristic detection, but i did expect more and i think firecat did too.

the fact that the scanner has now become slower, much slower for on-demand scans is bad, very bad... it was already extremely slow and i expected it to become faster, not slower. (im sure we were all promised a faster scan speed, right?)

with the spiderguard and spidermail being extremely fast, the scanner needs to catch up with its other parts :)

i still expect dr.web v5 to be released (probably in beta) in/within 2 months time, just 'a feeling' a have.

im sure they are using 4.44 as a 'taster' product by only adding a couple of things, and then releasing V5 with much much more, right? doing it this way will mean, when V5 does get released, everyone will be 'wowwwwwww'

    thats what i think anyway,

still, its always nice to see more updates, dissappointed the auto updating doesnt work on the new vista beta, thats a strange one from the drweb team.

but like i said, this week signatures are being added alot more, x4 of what they were doing, so lets see if they can keep it going, or maybe its just a one time thing for this week. *lol* :)

Have you reported this on their "bug tracker". They seemed to reply pretty quick, at least for me when I was having problems with spidergate in the past.

When the scheduler is set to scan my computer, it just re-boots twice, and then goes back to normal windows. Anyone esle had this problem.

I have never used the scheduler for scanning, so I gave it a try beta just now. I can't confirm the 2 reboots but, I did get a nice BSOD at the scheduled time that the scan should have started.

Well, about GUI.. It's not 5.x GUI, and I see no purpose in this change. There is something good -- with enough feedback the worst ideas behind this new GUI will go right to the recycle bin, not to the 5.x GUI.

so, get your complaints over to dr.web staff *lol*

Also, there is nothing really new in the scanner (its not 5.x scanner). Due to improved registry cleanup heuristics this scanner is even slower than before, but (I hope again) it would do much better soon.

i think this beta, 4.44 .... is one step backwards, which i think they need to do, to make 2 steps forward, or 3 maybe :D

i am glad this gui is NOT the one that will be used for V5 its just to plain and boring, with no colour.
the drweb gui as we all know it, was good but also basic, but if you look here... you will see that the old one, is better.

    http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/4953/drwebpv6.jpg

i understand they have 'rounded' it off a bit, and made it have a smoother look.

but i still look forward till the proper 'new GUI' release and the faster scanner time, for these reasons, i think 4.44 beta is a step backwards.

: still good news that more signatures are being added lately, hope they keep this up.
