Just wondering... do I install True Image on my external backup drive if I want to make a complete restorable image of my OS on my C drive with all the programs and files or on the C drive?

I was reading about the "Rescue Media Builder" under Custom installer. Has anyone done this before using an external drive like a My Book?

Xpilot mentioned about getting rid of an software on my My Book first as well before doing this. I haven't checked it out yet. Getting ready too soon.

    Any tips would be helpful.

    Thanks,
    James

The normal place to install True Image is on your C drive along with the OS and other programs.

Usually the rescue program is burned to a CD. This is to enable the computer to be booted and run from there in the worst case scenario.

As long as you don't actually install the My Book software you can leave it resident where ever it is. If you feel you want to use it in addition to TI fair enough but I have heard that if it is a version of Go Back it can conflict with TI operations.

    Hello SEAS,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please notice that Acronis True Image can be installed on any hard drive in your computer. It's generally recommended to install to the default location, though.

Acronis Media Builder can only create Acronis Startup Rescue Media on a removable media (or make an iso image separately). But there is also a method to make an USB hard drive bootable with Acronis Bootable Rescue Media, while still acting as a storage. You can find the guide for that (created by MudCrab) in the thread How to Create an Acronis Bootable USB Hard Disk, accessible also from Product Links, FAQs & Useful Forum Threads sticky.

If you have any further questions concerning Acronis software, please feel free to submit a request for technical support or post any of them on this forum. We will certainly try to help you in resolving any issues.

    Thank you.
