Im using AVG Anti Spyware 7.5. Do I need to run a dedicated antispyware app like SpySweeper or CounterSpy etc - or is AVG 7.5 good enough in this respect.

    Cheers,

AVG Antispyware is a dedicated anti-malware software . Malware = all kind of malicious software .

You need antivirus and a firewall in addition to AVG AS

I mean the adware protection etc. Im sure it will catch malware, but will it pick up adware, those apps with popups etc?

AVG Anti-Spyware protects against Trojans, Hijackers, Worms, Dialers, Bots, Zombies, Spyware, Adware, Riskware, Grayware and basically any other non-viral malware. ;)

But for virus protection you will need a separate AV.

Since having a new DELL C521 PC installed last week with McAfee Security Centre, AVG AntiSpyware has detected no spyware. Previously with Panda AntiVirus + Firewall 2007, AVG AntiSpyware used to pick up the occasional tracking cookie.

Given that I have just had to update my paid-for AVG AntiSpyware manually yet again, I wouldn't be content with AVG alone to combat spyware.

I use Adaware free, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster, along with Spyware Doctor free edition (it can be downloaded in the google pack). Pretty good too, I really had some problems with Spyware Doctor early on, but since they updated the software no problem. GesWall (they have a free version), Arovax Shield. Mcafee Virusscan Plus (the new version)

    They are not all antispyware.
