Okay you can be the early adopter this time. If only I'd been a little faster I could have been in the league of the well-respected.

Not sure which way to go with the 'Fallback' setting.

Personally, I'm using Norton. Anyway, according to OpenDNS:

DNSCrypt is a piece of lightweight software that everyone should use to boost online privacy and security. It works by encrypting all DNS traffic between the user and OpenDNS, preventing any spying, spoofing or man-in-the-middle attacks.

Is anyone having any major problems with man-in-the-middle attacks and if so, how/why (or I guess, to put it another way, why do I need DNSCrypt)?

I'm a long way from early adopter status, justenough.
I just started using Windows 7 for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago. :D

Did you report the issue via the feedback form in the DNSCrypt GUI? Or email to OpenDNS support? Just curious. :)

I belive that quite a lot of people has some kind of MITM problem. Many countries try to control internet somehow and spy on their citizens.

In future most internet traffic will probably be somehow encrypted to preserve privacy.

I just use my ISP and I find no need for an Optional DNS service with WSA-E with Identity Shield! And I have two Laptops only and on the road I use a VPN service in a insecure environment! ;)

I believe the app is just for someone who doesn't know how to change the dns settings.

    These are the Sendori servers.

yup, I do. Quick, dependable and adds a small layer of extra defense, with no penalty on machine resources or conflicts with other software.........No brainer. :thumb:

In terms of defence (URL protection) WOT and/or K9 does a better job than any DNS service.
In terms of speed... I don't know and I don't care... what's in a fraction of a second?

After giving this some thought the OpenDNS encryption DNScrypt makes so much sense that I moved to it.

WOT, Google Safe Search etc can still be used for an added layer.

There are also Firefox and Chrome extensions for DNSSEC validation but that doesn't seem to be picking up steam at this point anyway.

If you let it revert to OpenDNS for a fallback is there a better option for fallback in terms of encrypting the DNS query & answer?

DNSCrypt sets the main DNS to 127.0.0.1 and leaves the secondary slot open. Couldn't you just plugin another provider there?

My primary criteria for DNS is reliability. 2nd would be privacy. I'm not concerned with malware or phishing protection. Choosing based on who is a few milliseconds faster is just as pointless. I use Open DNS as a primary, my local ISP as the 2nd, and an overseas ISP for the 3rd.

I just changed from Comodo Secure DNS to Open DNS a few days ago. I want to see if I notice any difference in terms of speed. So far I don't. I imagine both are effective at thwarting malware/bad sites, but I depend on other means for that anyway and my DNS is about the last layer I'd depend on for that. I won't be using DNSCrypt for that reason as well (among others). Not worth any slowdown & other performance/stability issues I'd inevitably run into.

Switched to Norton. Comodo wasn't allowing me to go to one site, not that it was bad or anything but it for some reason it wasn't loading and timing out 95 percent of the time. Norton allows me to go through no problem.

When I saw that DNS Crypt required .NET Framework v 3.5 to function properly I knew it wasn't something I wanted on my box.

When I was on OpenDNS's site I didn't like seeing it asking for all that information either (name, address, etc...). I really couldn't believe my eyes. Sure, you can decline, and all you really need to do is use the DNS server addresses. But a lot of people won't realize this and will just blindly hand over that information. I really don't like that at all.

I've also noticed that since using those servers I've gotten disconnected a few times. Could just be a coincidence though.

Not a fan. I'm gonna be switching back to Comodo Secure DNS, and those assigned by my VPN when I use it (rarely these days).

For me Norton DNS is faster and safer than my ISP, Open DNS, Comodo DNS and Google DNS.
