Different Resolution problems in Windows 7 with larger icons

    Can some-one please explain to me the difference between choosing low resolution screen with small icons and text in Windows 7 or having higher resolutions with medium or large icons and text.
    If I have higher eresutions with medium orlarger icons some programs say my resolutions is to low !!
