I was looking at Defraggler a free version of a system defragmenting program. There was an interesting video of it in use on majorgeeks. Anybody here tried it? http://www.piriform.com/defraggler

I am currently using Auslogics Defrag. Any reason why I should switch to Defraggler?

It's been reported on Avira's forum that Avira 12 was causing Auslogics Disk defragmenter to slow down. However at least one member there has reported that they are not having that problem with the latest update to Auslogics. I have Auslogics on my netbook with PCAV, but I thought I would enquire about Defraggler in the event I were to put Avira on my netbook at some future time and still encountered a slowdown. Initially I was going to try Defraggler anyway but I aborted the install when I was presented with a box that was checked which said "Replace Windows Defragmenter" I wasn't sure what that entailed or what the ramifications would be.

When I defrag and it finishes, and if I immediately do another defrag, it says it needs defragging. :thumbd:

Luckily, I've never experienced such problems.
I guess different systems/setups react differently...;)

Enjoying the 'Defrag Free Space' and the Boot-Defrag of PageFile, Registry Hives etc.

    I mostly use PuranDefrag.
I also have Defraggler to defrag individual files and folders rather than the full disk.

Yep, Defraggler does the same for me. So that's why I am sticking with Auslogics which WORKS and doesn't behave poorly and buggy like Defraggler.

Any reason you use Defraggler for individual files and folders instead of Puran Defrag?

    Thanks for posting 1chaoticadult.
How can I do it using Puran Defrag?
Deffragler is only there because of this :doubt:

I agree with Mr. PC. You really just have to experiment and find what works best for you. Different defraggers react differently depending on your system. When I was using Defraggler I liked it okay. It has a lot of features you don't find on other free defraggers. But it doesn't optimize. Basically it consolidates all your data on the outer tracks of the drive but in no particular order. This alone can greatly improve performance. It doesn't have boot time defrag though. This comes in handy occasionally but isn't critical. For XP I still use and recommend Ultimate Defrag Free 1.72. It has way more options than Defraggler and has the best Help file I've seen with any defragger. I used it on Vista for awhile until it mysteriously stopped working.

It's in the right click context menu.

Hmmm... Seems I've passed this option in the installation and now can't get it back.

Try it for yourselves folks. Use Defraggler and defrag your hard drive. And when it's complete, immediately do another defrag and notice Defraggler claims it still needs to be defragged. This program is really buggy.:thumbd:

    Thanks zfactor.
It was a 3rd party tool that I've used to tweak the context menus a long time ago and I've forgotten it.
    Bye bye Defraggler ;)
