Default Gateway

    I am on a stand alone system.............i am seeing a connection to a Default Gateway ......is this normal...............how is it different then my DNS servers ?

    The default gateway is refering to the router that you are using. On a standalone system the default gateway is usually the system itself. So the gateway address should be the same as the systems IP address.

    A router and a DNS server can be the same divice, or two different devices. In a lot of cases, they are the same. In some other instances, you can have a list of DNS servers, not just one. The first DNS server is queried, if connectivity fails, then the second one is queried. Large companies usually have this setup.
