    Hello,

    Crystal Security 3.5.0.105 BETA released

    Changelog
    • Added On-access analysis mode (Settings -> Protection)
    • Added reset feature for Statistics
    • Added access log files via interface (Statistics)
    • Added "View Quarantined Files" for Blacklist (right-click menu)
    • Fixed bug in Protection (same malware detected only once)
    • Fixed bug in Block function (sometimes malware not blocked correctly)
    • Fixed bug in "Move to Whitelist" function (Blacklist section)
    • Fixed several other minor bugs
    • Updated internal database
    NB! On-access is disabled by default but it is possible to enable it via settings anytime:
    Navigate to Settings -> Choose Protection tab -> Tick On-access check box -> Click Apply.

    Clicking on the link for the portable version, gets me the full msi version. :confused:

    Crystal Security 3.5.0.106 BETA released

    Changelog
    • Added Heuristic analysis mode (Settings -> Protection)
    • Added Restore button for notification
    • Fixed bug in data file protection
    • Fixed bug in Active protection (empty files)
    • Fixed bug in Settings (unsafe criteria not saved correctly)
    • Updated internal database
    NB! Heuristic analysis is disabled by default. You can enable/disable it via settings anytime:
    Navigate to Settings -> Choose Protection tab -> Tick Heuristic check box -> Click Apply.
    Please note Heuristic analysis may cause several false positives.

    • Added Stealth Guard (Settings -> General -> Stealth Guard)
    • Fixed bug in Tray menu
    • Fixed bug in Checkup (custom scope)
    • Updated General settings structure
    • Updated heuristic database
    • Updated internal database
    NB! Stealth Guard mode is new feature and may cause issues. If Stealth Guard is enabled, then Trusted Items list will be generated.
    After Trusted Items list all newly arrived files will be blocked by default.

    How does the heuristic part actually work, what does it check for ?

    Thanks for the interest! :)

    Heuristic detection is based on byte patterns (e.g. if there is modified file of the same malware then it may still detect it with just one signature/pattern).

    So it's rather basic pattern type heuristics ( There are other heuristics methods avaliable rather than simple byte pattern crosschecking- that's why I asked how yours' work), where does it get the patterns from since you don't have any significant database of malware avaliable (or I am assuming wrong)? Btw most of the engines on virustotal should have their respective pattern type heuristics running since it's not such a complex system.

    I gather samples via MalwareTips forum.. VirusExchange section (daily malware samples and it is very useful resource). :)

    Both portable and installer version place dll and exe in appdata, so it gets blocked for people using SRP or AppLocker.

    @Windows_Security Kees, Thank you for the information.

    I assume that mentioned files should be located in Program Files\Crystal Security\ folder? :)
    If the answer is yes then I can change it so your mentioned issue should be solved in the next version.
