    Hello,

    I have a question:

I want to clone my internal SATA-HDD to an external HDD connected via USB 2.0.

Does this work with TI 7.0?

    Best Regards

    Thomas

P.S: TI 7.0 recognizes the external disk, but so far I did not dare to simply give the cloning process a try.

    Hi,

a short answer to my quick question would be appreciated:

Does TI 7.0 support cloning of disks to external USB 2.0 disks?

I mean cloning, and not writing images.

    Best Regards

    Th. Wahl

It appears to allow this (the disk is selectable), but I have not tried it. Just try it and let us know, if it fails it should not hurt anything. You may just have to reformat the USB drive afterwards. Note that the cloned drive would not be good for anything except a backup, it would not boot!!

    Hello --

I apologize for the delay - I was out of the office for some time.

Yes, you can do such a clone.

    Thank you.

    Ok I tried it:

    1. Connect External (IDE-)HDD connected via USB 2.0.
    2. Disk is correctly detected in BIOS.
    3. Boot XP.
    4. Start TI 7.0
    5. Choose my (SATA-)System-HDD as Source for clone.
    6. Choose the External HDD as Destination for clone.
    7. TI 7.0 restarts PC
    8. TI 7.0 screen comes up.
    9. Checks integrity of source disk
    10. Says "Disk not found" and abort clone process.
    11. XP restarts.

    Any clue?

    Best Regards

    Hello --

Please install the below update with disabled logging and see whether the problem remains.

    http://www.acronis.com/files/support/SnapAPI_s_e.exe

If the problem does remain, please enable logging by running the update once more, reproduce the program failure and send me the c:\snapapi.log file.

    Thank you.

Sorry, that the URL to the update file seems to be wrong.

Getright says that the file does not exist.

The link works for me, try right-click and "save as".

Thx, after applying the update, the cloning to the USB drive worked fine.

The only thing that happened was that I got one read error on the source drive, which does not seem to be that unfamiliar looking into this forum.

P.S: The link was fine - Getright had a problem with it.

    Best Regards

Now I have got a new problem.

I tried to clone my system hard disk (DISK 2, SATA on IDE3) to my backup hard disk (DISK 4, IDE on IDE1-Slave).

TI 7.0 rebooted XP and started the job.

Nevertheless it gave me one write error message for one sector on the source DISK 2 and then continuously write errors for sectors on the destination DISK 4.

I tried another backup hard disk and the same problem occured.

All three disks just work fine under XP without any problems.

    Best Regards
