I've been experimenting with True Image 10 in order to discover the best method of cloning a HDD containing Vista OS. I find that every time I've cloned, the HDD I've cloned to won't boot because windows file winload.exe is missing. I load the Vista disk and repair the boot files, then the HDD will boot properly and is an exact clone.

Anyone else experienced this with TI 10 and Vista Premium? Is it a bug? is there a patch. When I ran TI 10 on my XP SP2 PC, cloning produced an exact bootable clone.

Vista attaches itself differently to the hard drive than XP. This is a known problem and currently the only solution is to do just what you did and run Vista Repair.

Vista has this problem any time the partition moves or the id changes, etc. and is not limited to cloning.
