Chrome auto-updated for me on 50.0.2661.94. There is no longer an update feature to enable/disable in chrome://plugins. Google updating is not present in any scheduled tasks. And I found that one of the two Google updates in Services had switched itself to automatic startup from manual. I reset it so they are both on manual, which I think is enough to disable auto-updating. I can't even turn off Google updating in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Update).
I have had both services disabled so no auto-updating happened (even if it did, it would be blocked by SRP+UAC). If you disable services, you have to set them to manual before manually updating. I have left them at manual startup and will see if auto updating happens on my system also.

Reverted my Chromebook and Google Chrome on Windows 10 back to the stable channel. Was using the beta channel for some unreleased features back then and never bothered until now. I think I can vaguely recall some minor bugs, but not enough to revert back then. Main reason I reverted was because I reinstalled Windows, and crouton was getting useless.
