I have been using CCleaner about once a day for about a week and a half. Then I heard on some forum that it might get rid of things that are really needed, especially when cleaning the registry with it. I experienced this myself- I use Gdata AVK antivirus program. After the first time I used CCleaner my help file was missing from AVK. Fortunately I backed up my registry (as recommended by CCleaner) and was easily able to get my help file back.

How safe is it use CCleanner? Is it completly safe as long as you always back up? Can anyone recommend a similar product that is known to be safer to use? Or can anyone recommend a safer way to use CCleaner? Anybody else run into problems using it?

I hope this is the right forum to post this. I was not sure which one to use.

When I used to use it I had a few problems with it. I won't use it anymore. I now use ashampoo utilities, very safe and do a good job.

In the past I have had some problems with the Registry Cleaner of CC so I no longer use this part of the program.

However, for general File Cleaning I still use CC, but for a Registry sweep I use the commercial RegSupreme.

Other free cleaners which do a good job are here.

But, as you have found out, a Backup is essential prior to any cleaning.

    CC is the best.

I use CC for file cleaning and'
    RegSeeker for registry cleaning.

Although I never had a problem with CC's registry cleaner section. :)

    You can't
So you just don't use it (the registry clean part).

You can go into the issues for the registry and uncheck the list...plus just don`t use it. :)
