Can't access updates from Spyware blaster

I have had SB for a while now and thrilled with it. When I tried to update it today, I received notice of a failure to connect due to firewall or down server.
Anyway, I thought I would try reinstalling it and that may solve the problem. It didn't. My Adware and Spybots are working, I have Norton Security and Symantic. But I have two hijacked pages, one is an internet explorer page that takes you to a hijacked page, advising you to use other search engines, and a microsoft page, phony, that I reach when I need to open a file windows cannot open. Does any of this have anything thing to do with not being able to recieve updates, or do I need to configure something.

Let's get rid of the hijack first and see if that solves the problem.
