Can I upgrade the CPU on my laptop???

I have a 1.66 GHz and I need a 3 GHz to run the game FEAR. Can I upgrade it or do I have to get a new laptop

 

What laptop is it?

 

A Dell Inspiron 1505.

 

Im trying to find out about CPU upgrades but just to let you know, afaik, there is no 3Ghz processor for your laptop, and even Dell's most expensive XPS laptop still only has 2.8Ghz.

Dont take FEAR's system requirements so strictly. Intel's current CPU's arent about clockspeed only; theres other factor to consider for performance.

 

Ok the processor does seem upgradeable however I am not sure how much speed the laptop's cooling can handle.

Price is another consideration...Intel's Core 2 Duo T7600 is like $6xx and it runs at 2.33Ghz.

 

I can play Half Life 2 maxed out apparently but not FEAR.

 

I wouldnt recommend a laptop for gaming but if you must run FEAR, youll have to settle for less quality (lower settings).

And another thing, Half-Life 2 and FEAR are different games with different engines and scalability. Just because you can run one game well doesnt mean you can run a different game just as well.

I don't think theres anything you can do to make it go green. It appears its only a recommendation so you should be able to play it with your current cpu. The limiting factor will probably be your graphics card. I have an inspiron 6400 with a T2400 cpu and it manages to handle the latest games. However my ati x1400 graphics card doesn't handle them quite as good.

 

Is it dual core, does Fear support multi processing ?

 

Yes its dual-core.

Im not entirely sure about FEAR supporting dual-core; most sites show that dual-core makely little or no difference.

if you've got a fast internet connection now and you're planning to download the trial you might as well get it. not that i know anything about trial downloads lol

all i meant in my last post was, that was the part that was red eventhough it had specs it said should work. i would try running FEAR if i were you.

 

The ASUS G1 and G2 are excellent gaming laptops.. but are around $2500

 

Fear and Fear 2 are wicked games. Very atmospheric. Clocked them both. Fear 2 was over quick, like it wasn't finished properly. Sort of game that comes into its own when you turn everything on max in the options. A graphics card like an ATI X1800 above or Nvidia Geforce 7800 or above is whats needed.
