A yearly subscription - are you sure about that? This forum may add 10K more Linux users if that happens.

Nothing is certain till it happens. I don't mean that in a snobby offhandish way.

As of now I believe (belief only - summation of all I've read) this is M$ business plan. I don't believe M$ will change this unless market forces & or governments make them.

I doubt that is going to happen, but if MS start charging for a subscription to Win10 I believe that would be the final nail in the Windows coffin.

Yep, M$ will be digging their own grave if that happens.

Especially after the "free" upgrade and major push of Win10 on Win7 and Win8.1 machines.

Yes, but perhaps we're getting slightly off topic in this thread.
    Just saying. ;)

Is it safe to install v2 of KB3097877 ?

I never installed v1 of this update, but since this update is a critical patch to fix vulnerabilities in OpenType fonts I assume it would be wise to install it, right?

Or do you guys advise me to hide v2 until further notice?

I'm still hiding v2 at the moment. I suppose you have to balance the risk of possibly being compromised by this vulnerability against Micro$oft's propensity to bork your computer with another half-baked update patch.

In post 1327 of mine it says that v2 of 7877 does not fix all the issues caused by the update. It looks like a v3 is likely due out soon.

On one of my 7x64 machines last night I created a new restore point, then a new Macrium image, hid three updates (3101246, 3102819, 3107998 ), took a deep breath and installed the updates.

This included 3097877. From what I have read, any issues resulting from installation of 7877 can be fixed by removal of same. Whether that is accurate or not, I felt secure with the restore point and Macrium backup in the wings if needed.

All appears to be okay today with the blatant exception of once again losing the Chrome icons for all desktop Chrome shortcuts. This oddness has happened to me on at least two prior MS Update episodes. There is nothing I can do to correct it save for reinstalling Chrome. So for at least the 3rd time, MS Updates have broken Chrome desktop icons, turning them instead into generic white page icons.

Soon I'll be applying MS Borkfulness Updates to my other 7x64 machine, and will report back with results.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I'll keep v2 hidden for now since Dragon1952 is hinting that a v3 maybe soon will follow.

We'll see. And if v3 will not follow sooner or later. I'll give this revised patch a chance.

No apparent problems on the second 7x64 computer after installing (and hiding) the same Updates. No Chrome icon issue either.

I think I'm filing that in 'Hidden' as well.

'Update that supports Azerbaijani Manat and Georgian Lari currency symbols in Windows'

I understand what is going on with M$. I'm opposed to M$ trying to force W10 upon me.

I don't want to install anything that will stop my sidebar gadgets. If they fix that in 7877 v3 then i will install it.

Don't EVER use 10, believe me, it's a DISASTER. The famous November update in 10 is actually an UPGRADE, and we all know how upgrades go, at least half the people have bad results with them. When I did it, the machine's performance dropped in half. I will never use anything with 10 on it again. And this UPGRADE nonsense is something they'll be doing twice a year, from what I hear. How do they think the average Joe is ever going to deal with that??! OMG!

I suppose it depends on whether you make a lot of monetary transactions in Lari or Manat lol.
