Installed it for fun on a Windows 8.1 VM. Will see if it has to come back off. No immediate issues that I have noticed.

Some web application modal dialog boxes don't work correctly in Internet Explorer 11 after you install update 3008923
    Email Article ID: 3025390
    Release Date: December 17, 2014

    Symptoms
You install MS14-080: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer: December 9, 2014 on a computer that's running Internet Explorer 11 or the Internet Explorer 11 Web Browser control. However, after you do this, you may experience unexpected behavior when you interact with sites that use one or more web application modal dialog boxes. Any data or information that's provided in the modal dialog box may not be returned to the application window or to the dialog box that created the data or information. Therefore, the application that created the dialog box may exhibit errors or lack specific functionality that was dependent on that dialog box data.
    Resolution

Well x64 W7 SP1 here and after about a half dozen "Try Agains," I manually downloaded it from the link above. Then I ran it and it notified me that it didn't apply to my system, yet the dang notice is still sitting in the notification tray. ugh!!!

I've still got a notification for 8 updates from last week hanging about on my task bar. I'm coming to the conclusion they are more trouble than what they are worth.

    Yep, same here.
W8.1 64 bit. Install it, it says not needed. Check for updates and there it is again and it is still not needed when I install. I guess I could keep going round this loop forever.

So what do you think I should do? Since I had many failures trying to install KB 3025390 to fix IE11 update KB 3008923 and also given the fact I could not manually remove KB 3008923, despite many attempts, today I try the uninstall and to my amazement it worked. So then I run Windows Update and KB 3008923 is available again. KB 3008923 again? Should I try Confused to say the least and thank you!
EDIT: Impatient as I am, I took an AX64 snapshot in case I needed a two minute restore, and installed KB 3008923 again. Then I opened Windows Update and it stated I was up to date, however, again being impatient I checked for updates and KB 3025390 arrives. So I install and it was 100% successful. What changed over the course of several days I'll never know!

Unfortunately KB3008923 is categorized as a CRITICAL update for both server and client alike. MS has passed a high risk decision onto the user. To patch or not to patch, that is the question (sorry could not resist). I have not installed it either. :cautious: Crashes or open to exploitation is not a fair choice.

Hi emmjay, I installed KB3008923 a few days ago in my W7. I am using IE9 in that computer, I haven't had any kind of issue after installing the update. Probably, if I was running IE10, I would have done the same but if I was using IE11, perhaps then I would have hold on.

KB3008923 crashes supposedly occur only with IE 9.

Hi Bo, I have IE11 installed. Mr Brian says only IE9 is impacted. This is a very confusing situation.

Hi Mr Brian. I don't use IE much but I have used it everyday since I applied the update. No crashes or issues at all. I always update a few days and sometimes weeks after updates come out, usually following my instincts when an update is iffy. It always works for me. For this particular update I didn't even wait a week. I think the problems this update has caused are more so in IE11.

Then, I would wait a little more.

I saw that before updating, the words some and limited are key. The update has not caused any issues for me:

    "Issue 2

We are aware of some limited reports of Internet Explorer 9 crashing after you apply this security update.
