    Hi all,

nod32 found and quarantined a virus - which it deleted ? I did'nt take to much notice as it seemed to have dealt with the problem.

next day switched on the pc - bios boots, and winxp's startup screen comes up, then the screen goes blank, I can hear windows startup music, the screen stays blank. I can vnc to the box but get a very blocky screen which is unusable. I can also log into safe mode without any problem.

Can someone advise how I can find out what the virus that it found was? I can then download and run the particular variant cleaner or manually find the offending files.

Has anyone seen this situation before or knows what the problem is?

    thanks

Could you please start Windows in safe mode, create a log from Autoruns and send it to support[at]eset.com with this thread's url in the subject?

just for information - after trying a few things to fix the problem, when in safe mode I went to msconfig and disabled all startup programs, but this had no effect after rebooting - still a blank screen.

I'll run the autorun and see what else is starting up.
