I am dealing with an older HP with XP home edition. When it boots up,it will go past the HP screen, then a black screen giving boot choices. Then it will, without being touched, boot up with no problems. I would like to know how do I eliminate the black screen?

Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG
    Select the Boot.ini tab
If you have dual-boot setup, select the appropriate entry under [operating systems]
In the Boot Options section at the bottom, uncheck /SAFEBOOT option
    Click OK
    Restart Windows
