Rather unrelated, and sorry if its been posted.
But I would like an official portable avira free (as an on demand scanner)
or a command line scanner with incremental signature update.

Edit : I don't mind paying for portable avira, specially for commandline scanner. As long it get incremental signature update ;)

Nice to hear that, thank you.Well,a ray of hope is shown.....:)
It's interesting to know if Avira will be able to keep up with the other two major players in free AV industry,Avast and AVG,as these two have implemented in their free versions more shields, settings, protection.

but someone told me in this forum , the avira developers read this topic

about new feature , or our wishlist , we should wait for avira 11
or AntiVir Personal for example 10.0.1.0 (actual 10.0.0.611) ??

    - Better GUI
    - Better updater
    - More features in free version

If that all happened I would maybe try it out instead of Avast! because of the better detection rates.

Oh we are reading this :) Admittedly sometimes what some users want, others completely reject. As such it's always a bit of a walk on the tightrope. You just can't make perfect software for everyone.... But we DO listen :D

    wow

    may i ask a question ?

could we see some new features in the v10 ?
or should we wait for v11

for example v10 personal , with the option in the free version to to open directly the details page when a virus is found , would be cool:thumb:

I use AntiVir for almost ten years. Thanks a lot for one of the best software ever. Please, keep it simple and light. If you are unable to resist adding hips or sandboxing, please add them to Avira Security Suite (which I do not use :D ). These are my wishes for the next release of Avira software.

    The desires of less importance:

    1. New GUI. I think that existing GUI is excellent, but few cosmetic changes, larger, brighter and more visible icons and notification window would be of help. Also, consider adding some sliders. People love sliders for some reason. :)

    The desire of middle importance:

    1. Finally resolve the problem of acoustic alerts. "Use the following WAV-file" options does not working. PC speaker sound can be a very irritating. Maybe you can set up some original, attractive and less irritating sound by default?

    The desires of high importance:

    1. Make free service similar to ClearCloud, focused on blocking malicious websites (especially at information stealing websites, fake antimalware software distribution websites and others) rather than web content filtering.

    2. Find a way to improve detection of certain groups of malware, such as fake antimalware software or data-stealing malware, which are relatively frequent and are not effectively detected by traditional (signature-based) antimalware software. I really do not know how it is possible to achieve, perhaps with some new type of heuristic, improving Avira ProActive or developing reputation-based tecnology? :D

    3. Try to make ProActive more efficient and add it to Avira AntiVir Personal.

I want to thank Marcus, Stefan and other people from Avira who had patience, to read my suggestions.

    My ideas:

    Detection:

    - improve the detection of viruses, 0-day (improving Pro-activ, adding genetic signatures against Fake Av, Pornblocker. Introducing Cloud, recruiting more malware Hunter.

    resources

    - more lighter.

like I said, they should wait till they are ready with a strong plan. Nothing says your diaper has to be changed yearly. I think improving on Stefans and fellow malware writers, hueristics will be a good start. They is very good at what he does and Avira isnt really broke to begin with. A tad bit ugly GUI but other then that, a great product.:thumb:

Personally, I don't think they need any improvment. The updating has been fixed from what I can tell and their detection rates are second to none. The program is as light as a feather and the FP have been reduced.

    Just my .02 cents,
    Ice

IceCube1010, you're certainly right, but I would stretch your statement a bit (if you don't mind): I think that Avira doesn't need any major improvements, for the reasons mentioned earlier. What it needs -in my opinion- is set of lesser cosmetic changes, that in a result, could lead to increased interest from users:
    1. Your AV in your language - Avira speaking to users in their own native languages (through menus, pop-ups etc.);
    2. Ads-be-gone - move notifier ads to main program GUI. Avast way. They still would be there, and users would be happy because of this change;
    3. Look how shiny it is! - nice looking pop-ups. I don't say that current ones are bad, but if they would look a little bit more prettier, then users would surely notice it. Allow users to change alerts sound. Maybe attach 2 or 3 ?

Now, I don't want to say that bringing ProActive to Free version is not important or that I'm only interested in bells-and-whistles. I just see that some people are pushed away from Avira only because it's not in their language or the 'nag screen' is poping up or because program XYZ looks nicer.

    Just my 0.02€

Avast has recently come out with a new version with many new features which look promising. They seem to have more shield that Avira.

Wouldn't Avast provide more security now.

In my opinion, more protection features don't mean that you will get better protection than less protection features. It depends and I can say that some of the Avast! shields are good and some shields need improvement.Sometimes, less protection features can even provide better protection than more protection features.:)

Even Avira is not my taste and I quite hate about it actually but I would like Avira to try its best to reduce FPs,better virus definition updates server, lower system resources, take out the annoying nag screens.Of course the most important is improve detection and disinfection(try help to get rid of some Rogueware if possible). All of these improvements are just enough for me then maybe I would change my mind.:)

I have no problem with Avira (Premium) GUI with the exception of one thing: it takes way too much time even on a fast system to open! - This looks very unprofessional and should be improved. When double clicking on umbrella symbol you shouldn't have to wait 4-5 seconds for appearance of GUI.

The program itself runs very light (with exception of updating, this should be improved also not spiking cpu use so very much) and I like the speed very much.

And I would like to know if there is a new version 11 coming soon (last year it came out end of march). I looked for existing beta test and found nothing. o_O
