He is talking about the amount of ram it now uses, it is much less, not quite as low as NOD32, but low enough for me.

o_O Is the avast beta placing it's operating files in the program section, or is it still placing them in the temp section?

I have just today installed another memory board, and may give avast a try again, but really would like it if the operating files were not in the temp section.

    Thanks

avast! Web Shield used to generate a lot of temp files (about 12 MB on my machine) but after upgrading to latest 4.6 beta this problem was already fixed, temp files no longer there. avast! getting better and better. :)

I use Avast and NOD32 as resident without conflict. Why? I dunno, because I can I suppose. NOD32 should be enough but I like Avast - I have my cake and ice cream.

Wildman,TEMP dir is meant for temp files. So if this feature is there why program shouldn't use it? They reduce these temp files, but some simply must be there for avast to operate correctly. All programs use it,why avast! shouldn't?

Web Shield is a similar function to NOD32 IMON. It's checking all HTTP traffic in real-time including archives and their content.

:D Because that directory is for the use of all kinds of temp files and not just avast's. The owner of the machine should have the ability to delete all the files in this directory if he/she desires. As you know this has not been the case with avast in the past. If there are required files for avast to function they should be in the avast program directory.

    Thanks

Does Avast have a real time monitor thing like AVG or is purly on demand? Also does Avast scan emails like AVG? If so is it compatible with Mozilla Thunderbird?

I prefer AVG 7. It has simply performed better on my system than avast!, although both are high quality AVs. Just go with whichever one plays best on your machine.
