Some people will buy the pro versions because they want a more comprehensive solution. I think Avast knows how to run their business better than we do.

I don't know, they should make their paid version worth the extra fees. :D

I'm NOT complaining we are getting to much for free.
I just said i'm wondering why they have decided to cut so much the benefits of the paid users.
Alwil is a company, they need a source of income to survive!
I guess they know what they are doing :)

Anyways, all the new things on the free version is 100% welcome by me (All my friends have Avast! installed because i recommend it to them), it would mean less PC's to fix for free  (Yeah i do it for free!!)

For a long time Avast was very dependent on signatures. That's doesn't cut it anymore, and adding a behavior blocker and sandbox should improve it's zero-day protection. I think this is a smart move by Avast.

Keeping the free version strong, will only improve their sales of the pro version. At least that is the way I see it.

By keeping the Free version strong, how would that increase the sales of the pro version? :doubt:

I wouldn't be surprised to see Avast! evolve to just two versions: the free version with all the new features, and an AIS (paid) version that extends the silent firewall they have today to use these features (and others) to market those who would rather not deal with answering a HIPS. After all, with 140M+ registered users you don't need to convince a very high percentage to buy in order to pay the bills. BTW, I am running the beta now with no problems after working around a little early interference with OA. Very stable. :)

You are right, they shouldn't offer a free version at all. Then everyone will buy their paid suite.

I am not sure why people asked for a gadget to be added. Seems to add about 10meg on my PC. I got rid of it.

I think adding the extra features into the free version is a brilliant move on their part. Script blocking, sandboxing etc. are great features to have. The fan base of the free version will help the Avast team build an excellent overall product for years to come. :D

The funny thing is, when they have a beta, it never really seems like a beta but more like a RC or final product. :thumb:

    Great work!

That will indeed make a good name for AVAST showing they really want users to be malware free regardless they pay for it or not..They are commited.... is more than enough to fetch them business:thumb:

That was the point I was trying to make. The better the free version, the more people that will use it. The more people that use the free version, the more that will upgrade to the paid versions. I would bet most of the current paid users, started as users of the free program.

The included Script Shield makes avast Free antivirus a complete antivirus which can detect scripts and on par with paid antivirus. But the best part is it is FREE :D :thumb:

I am sure paid antivirus might feel threaten with what avast is doing.

I do not agree with a gadget for avast. It is so unnecessary :thumbd:

Ppl want to pay either to simply support avast! development or they specifically need certain features. Like firewall, anti-spam, more control for sandbox, maybe Secure Desktop.
The gap is closing when it comes to basic features but then again there are certain things that are only available in payable version.
