Wohooo!!! I am excited and charged up then...another excuse now for me to get back to avast

 

Any idea about how long the current version (v. will be supported (regarding definition updates) after the release of 2014? Thank you very much!

 

Considering avast! 4.8 still isn't discontinued, i can assume v8 will be supported for a very long time... Engine is shared anyway, only certain specific features won't be (usually related to AutoSandbox or now DeepScreen). But only avast! team knows for sure.

 

All files were removed. What are the big changes?

Wow, so are they getting rid of AutoSandbox altogether, or will it work in conjunction with DeepScreen?

Hard Mode sounds fantastic!

Will Hard Mode be in the free version, or just the paid? If it is in the free, Avast! continues to amaze me with what they give users for free.

Also, half the program size? Nice. Faster scanning? Nice.

 

DeepScreen supersedes the existing Auto Sandbox. They work in a similar way, but DeepSreen is far more advanced. Plus they can use it to perform Dynamic Binary Translation analysis with it (in terms of scan engine emulator) and since they are now rolling out Dyna-Gen, they won't have to make behavior detection rules by hand anymore. I don't know how this will affect things in real world but i'm sure there will be some effect either way.

yep, Avast is the King for incorporating, "Buzzwords" into their software.

What do you prefer:

"DeepScreen" or "A scan feature that allows to monitor programs in a virtual environment that also allows other emulating features"

Companies make up words to describe features that are too long to desribe otherwise. It doesn't matter if the word has no meaning, though "DeepScreen" here just means "deep analysis" or to "screen something for supcicious activity".

CSU is also no buzzword as it pretyt accurately desscribes the function and so is not FileRep (short for File Reputation) and bunch of other words. They are what they are. And they aren't just some useless buzzwording features that don't do anything, but they actually function very well.

I don't like it much either, and why a new GUI? They just made a completely different one for v8, and now they're changing it again already, waste of resources if you ask me.

 

Interesting features, I really like to see how these play out.
Horrid GUI though. A tablet-ish mistake. And 'Everything is good'?
I'd like a simple OK or green checkmark please&pretty please instead of some holistic 'Life is great' curiosum.

 

Actually I find v8 gui horrid and v9 to be absolutely fantastic. I guess a matter of preference

Its just details, the design itself is good and simple but i feel there are too many tabs on the left panel.
I feel things like Support and Store could go somewhere else in the GUI. Placing Support in the lower right corner would be good.
Statistics and Store could also be in a single tab, i dont know, they could call that "Extras".

Anyways, as i said, its just personal opinion but overall its a good and simple design just way too many tabs on the left when you are in the "Status" panel.

 

It wasn't completelly different. They basically just changed some graphics, color scheme and added a front page with big icons. The rest was pretty much the same as it was since version 5.0. But for version 2014, the interface will in fact be all new.

Personally i think it's a good decision because the old interface wasn't exactly keeping up with the features anymore...

 

So deepscreen would be the integration of code emulation (virtualise on code level) with heuristics (screen on code level) and sandboxing (virtualise on application level)with behavioral analysis (screen on application level)
