I installed Windows 8 a few days after it came out (sister works for MS so I get it dirt cheap). I have loved using Avast. But as the Avast support forums will show, it has had issues and I ran into some of them. When I learned Windows Defender is not MSE in Windows 8, I figured for maximum compatibility to just go with MSE. But then the report came out that it scored a 1.5 in detection and didn't pass.

I'm not the paranoid type as there may be many here. (Anyone ever read the article about the majority of major security experts polled didn't use ANY anti-virus - just don't visit porn sites and you're safe! LOL)

I don't mind using something that scored a 3.5 or 4 on AV-TEST. But a 1.5 has me a little leery of sticking with MSE. Nice to have no issues, no BSODs, no false positives, etc. But also I'll feel like an idiot if I do get something.

I don't want to spend more than $10. I'm considering Webroot or AVG now, although Avast has come out with new versions addressing the Win8 issues.

    Dear consultant1027,

You seem like a typical example of typical reader of these types of tests. It seems to me that they have achieved what they were made for - to make you trust certain brands just because of ... what ? because of some NUMBERS - 1.5 , 2, 5, 6 , 4 , 3.5 ... these are just =>>> numbers. You used Windows 8 for just a few days, you have no experience with it (pretty much no experience) and you read something and because of it (only) decided to change. This is pure marketing and you felt victim of marketing tricks. Better ask your sister send you some contacts from MS to professionally explain to you things about antivirus programs or information security (which is way more than just AV).

Would you feel like an idiot when the other av (you name it) fails ? This will certainly happen (some day) if you do not take the necessary precautions. Security is not just AV.

This one is also not the right answer and pure myth. There are many free legitimate porn movies networks that do not harm the users' computers. There are also many paid porn networks, sites, studios that also provide higher quality movies and also do not harm computers. Of course, just like anything else there are some exceptions - sites that pretend to be porn sites that spread malware.

You have your own right to use whatever program you want but it is very hard to me to understand people like you who read some test - few numbers and this makes them CHANGE the product of choice. You did not consider what you read about 3rd party programs elsewhere but just numbers in tests.

Have a nice day and good luck in researching :thumb:
