IBK - will there be a test of Eset AntiVirus (ie NOD32 v3) when it is released? I dont actually think it will be much different to the current NOD32 in on-demand detection, but would be interesting to see nonetheless

I do not think that there will be a separate test for it.

    of course, will do.

the thing is, us customers wait 12 months for an update, and then realise it makes no difference to the actual product, i think we are being shafted, right up the poo hole.

so nevermind your answers, i want to find my own too :D

Thanks IBK for comparatives, interesting results as allways, and as allways, some happy users (the ones whose AVs done well), and some upset/questioning users (the ones whose AVs didnt do so well), happens after every comparative!

Personally, and I'm sure many other users here agree, everyone appreciates your team and your own efforts to provide the results.
Awaiting for next comparatives to be released now :D

    BUT.....

people forget trustport is system heavy though.

and obviously it has good detection, with bitdefender, ewido, norman and AVG.

gonna be more aswell when they add Drweb, although this shouldnt add any drag to their already heavy product.

I'm talking about NOD not BitDefender. Advanced plus is better than Advanced and the overall % is a little higher than the Febuary test. Sorry if it hurts to hear this. ;) :p

nice results from Avira. Interesting to see Norton defeated KAV... and AVG defeated Bit Defender again.

    Yes , very interesting.
As I expected KIS 7 no.1 (97%) and ESS a long way to go (44%).

KIS is not number one. :D
Avira has 99.45 % and Norton 98.8 %, both higher then KIS (which has 98.46 % btw). :)

The results surprised him because he had different predictions for kav and nod.

The performance isn't bad, that is always what i hear from people who never used it.
I run it on a 5 year old computer without a problem.
Did you ever run the trial? If you run it on a modern computer you doesn't notice that is running.

I understand that some people aren't happy that a relative new product
for av-comparatives like Trustport passes all the Familiar well-known brands
and ends up number 1 and finds a THOUSANDS of malware that those don't find.

That is why i think av-comparatives and other tests like these are great,
they give products the possibility to proof themselves.
In this case PR budgets doesn't help.
Otherwise it would be , that everybody would buy the product
that has the biggest marketing or PR money to spend.
Because there can be a difference between the best known product
    and the best performing product.

Yes, i know i am a happy user, after these results...

don't forget ESS is still in beta, and it's only just reached beta2 so maybe they were testing beta1, who knows? they informed readers that Dr Web was beta but not ESS.

No, just a fan of the product, just like the others that have
the name of the product they run in their avatar or signature.

And , please let Avira, Gdata fans and me be happy ..

I think it will make some difference.
They removed IMON and added some extra modules in their kernel.
"sandboxing data" etc. will be held against the new modules as well.

So it should perform better ..

I don't know what facts you are using to base this opinion (or is it an urban legend) on, but the line graph in the AV-Comparatives report showed Symantec adding missed samples from the last test at a rate quicker than several other AV's.

well, ESS has no difference in detection rates compared with the current 2.7 version.

You're talking about missed samples from a controlled test. I'm talking about outbreaks and user-submitted samples.
During an outbreak, an AV may:
    - Catch the samples proactively (heuristics, behaviour analysis, etc)
    - Release signatures quickly.
Symantec isn't know for its strong heuristics and/or fast updates. They are improving their proactive detection (SONAR, Antibot, etc), but Kaspersky (PDM, fast signature update), ESET (heuristics), BitDefender (heuristics and fast signature update) and Avira (heuristics and signature update) are still better.

IBK, could you please check out avast! again just against polymorphic samples (no need for anything thorough, just quick comparison, but if you want you can make it detailed)?
ALWIL guys just updated it a bit after your deadline so they missed the chance. But i'd still like to see how they improved it (mainly because poly detection was the only serious issue found in Aug 2007 test)..

Congrats to Trustport, Avira and Gdata ..

Eset will release v3 soon, after that i expect that they will be higher in the ranking after that.
And i expect that the heuristics for V3 will even be better,
and they already have the best heuristics now.

Re: AV Comparatives is Almost Due

Why would Trustport get praised if it needs that much engines from other wellknown av´s just to surpass a bit other high detection single engine av´s and i did trial it not too long ago making my surfing almost as slow as a snail. And even with all those engines it´s zero day attack protection isn´t impressive at all. However i will test it again. If your happy with it stick with it but i fully understand why it is not being mentioned often. It just doesn´t do much better then many other wich are fast, light, good heur and have lot´s of sig detection.

about gdata i guess because it is not due to their own technology that their detection is high. F/secure is the most populair multi engine product but that´s likely due to kav.
