    A firewall would help where, say, a virus is trying to infect you via an exploit such as a flaw in Windows SMB. However, 3rd party firewalls really just represent new vectors for attack and to **** up your connection, the Windows firewall is all you need.

    ESET doing pretty well.
    I currently got KIS 2012 on my main PC and it expires in September so I may buy a ESET 2 year student license. Although I am no longer a student from next month as I graduate! ha ha So if I buy it now it means I will loose 2 months as I still got KIS.

    firewalls are more bandaids these days to try and patch up bugs in the programs. Rather than the developers try and get rid of all the bugs before releasing it.

    Good job Eset! I see Avast and Avira are slipping a bit. Bummer.

    Avast! is still keeping ahead of Avira and AVG. It use to have worse detection rates but looking at the last on-demand comparative as well says otherwise. Way to go!

    I have no use for any of them, therefore they are blocked. Along with China's domains and a slew of others.

    Out of curiousity, can you name one good .ru site that might be useful for someone that only understands English.

    I sometimes watch videos from RuTube. Lots of them are English.

    Also there are good products from Russia like Kaspersky and Dr. Web.

    There are others, which I can't remember right now.

    For some reasons I do not really care about test results anymore. I am a loyal ESET user, it has never let me down, so why would I change if they wouldn't be performing that well on an occassion? Certainly since various tests results do differ. ESET has been doing well so far on this dynamic test, but it sucked extremely on one AV-Test. And after that, on another AV-Test, it was above average on all areas again.

    However there are ofcourse some observations you can make:
    • Over all the three months so far, Symantec is clearly the best performing;
    • avast! is clearly offering the best free solution (it is a shame that Microsoft is not participating in this test, but they would be performing worse anyway);
    • Trend Micro is doing very in dynamic tests compared to other tests, probably due to their good url filtering;
    • McAfee is really starting to be a joke
    • BitDefender, F-Secure, G Data and Panda are solid and consistent top-performers;
    • Kaspersky has been below expectations for several years now, although the new 2012 version has a lot of improvements the Kaspersky team is too arrogant to fix issues (performance issues, extremely slow scan times, 99% CPU usage) who have been here for a while which makes them lose customers and fans.
    I am looking forward to seeing how 2012 versions will perform, especially BitDefender. Also, I am very interested in seeing how Panda Cloud exactly compares to the classic Panda lineup. Panda claims that the difference should be very small or non-existent. However it would be good to see that confirmed in a test.

    Avast don't have their free product in the dynamic tests, so for example I'm unsure whether the sandbox feature (not in free according to their comparison chart) is making a difference here.

    AutoSandbox is in the Free version, which makes more of a difference unless AV-Comparatives specifically runs programs in Avast's Sandbox.

    totally agree.

    i even find their customer support very bad and I dont know why are they so arrogant.

    I have tested almost all products and for customer service I would give kaspersky the worst score.

    firstly , response came week later , that too inappropriate and that too in such a language that looks as if he is doing a big favor to me.

    Mcafee support too was bad.

    Norton, Bitdefender, Eset ,Vipre support was good and panda support was fine ( just bit delayed ).

    ofcourse, its just my experience :)

    avast! Free Antivirus has the AutoSandboxing which comes into play in this test. The Sandbox is not involved in this test since it has to be started manually.
