I'm trying to revive an old ~2008 laptop using Ubuntu and be able to play a few Steam games on it. Unfortunately the HD2600 ATI card on it is either not recognized when deciding to install the proprietary drivers or is no longer supported (I'm not sure which).

I've tried both 12.04.3 LTS and 13.10 and both give me the same result.

Usually when I want to install the proprietary drivers I just fire up the "additional drivers" option. On this laptop that menu is blank basically.

I know the HD2XXX series has been discontinued on Windows and they provide a legacy driver for it. Is it also discontinued on Linux? Is there a way to install a legacy mobility driver?

Have you checked the manufacturer's site for linux drivers? If they have one you can then install it manually. That's about all I can think of...
