btw bitdefender maybe on demand only but it still installs services and as standard has the services always running unless you set them to manual.

No. Just download CureIt run a scan and CureIt can be removed.
When your ready to scan again download CureIt again and it will be updated with the latest def's.

You'll still get the services running and drivers get used in order to run the scan, and you'll still get conflicts with other AVs if installed. Beyond the web-based solutions, CureIt and stuff like ClamWin, I don't see anything either. Certainly not Bitdefender.

Norton Security Scan, part of the current Google Pack of free programs. It downloads the latest Norton databases upon starting the program, and is only for on demand use. No services, no processes loaded at startup. You can uninstall the Google downloader and just keep NSS. Check it out: http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html

with shadow defender in shadow mode I have found that a number of av/as programs can be installed and run. Reboot then gets rid of them until the next time I feel like wasting some time.

Note, though that Norton Security Scan can detect and remove viruses/worms only . It doesn't remove any spyware and other such malware.

I run Avira Premium. When I do a scan with NSS, I just disable the on-access guard. No conficts. I would imagine this would hold true for most AV programs.

Not a problem. SAS free and/or MBAM will fill that gap nicely. One or both should be part of everyone's arsenal anyway.

My 9-year-old granddaughter runs Avira premium on-demand only. Easy to configure it that way.

Twister runs on-demand if you simply uncheck the "load at startup" box.

Not so much conflict, but it's slow. If you have a realtime AV enabled, the files will be checked twice as they are scanned by NSS. So, the two AVs are fighting for resources. (Of course conflicts may happen as well if something gets detected by both on-access and on-demand AV and they both want to remove/quarantine it.)

Best to disable your realtime AV temporarily.
