I have a simplistic way of doing this by using Message Filters
    via the Tools drop-down.

    Filter Rules

    Filter Name: From Spam (Junk)
Apply filter when: Checking Mail or Manually Run

    Match any of the following
From - Isn't in my address book - Collected Addresses
    From - is - my e-Mail Address (i.e xyz@abc.com)

    Perform these actions:
Set Junk Status to - Junk
    Delete Message

Everything not in my address book goes to the trash folder which you can spot check to see if you want to add any of those addresses to your Collected Addresses. Once you are sure there is no mail you want to keep or add to you address book, go to Tools and Run filters on folder while in the trash folder and all the junk will be deleted from the trash folder. Occasionally, run a Compact on the trash folder to keep it from getting too big.

I never see any spam clutter in my Inbox. I have full control of what gets deleted and what doesn't. Even though it is not 100% automated, it works fine for my needs.

I wonder why you would need that. The junk filter in Thunderbird is very good once trained which takes a little while if you start using it.

When I just did this with TheBat it only allows you to import them to a POP account. So what I did was setup a free POP account through Gmail. Set that account up in TheBat and imported the spam to my spam account. From there you can drag and drop to another account. Once in my main account's spam box I used one of TheBat plugins (AntiSpam Sniper) with the 2500 emails from the link in the thread I posted.

    The built-in one.

EDIT: I recommend adding the JunQuilla extension. Its documentation can be found here.

No, there isn't, AFAIK. But again, the junk filter learns pretty fast - within 3-4 weeks it's very reliable. Particularly in the beginning make sure that you regularly check the junk folder in order to mark possible false positives as "Not junk".

Well worth it. Very configurable, light, and offers loads of plugins and options.

AFAIK that's the normal behaviour. This is confirmed in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls :

Re: filters for all my accounts

Filters must be set up on a per-account basis, and they likewise operate on a per-account basis. I believe filters can be copied to another account though. See: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Filters_%28Thunderbird%29 for complete details and tutorial

Re: filters for all my accounts

I don't think that this is correct. You have to differentiate between message filters and the junk filter. There are indeed account specific message filters which can be seen in the messageFilterRules.dat text file in every account - but they have nothing to do with the junk filter. The junk filter (which is a Bayes filter), on the other hand, only uses the training.dat file which contains the training data for the Junk Mail Controls - and there is only one in your profile folder (i.e. not account specific).

change language on firefox and thuderbrid

    hi

by the way maybe is almost off topic but i found a nice component to change the language on firefox and thunderbird quick locale switcher https://addons.mozilla.org/it/firefox/addon/1333/?src=api

is there a way to force thunderbird to write settings on a file instead on registry?

why don't open a topic with What are the "Must Have" extensions for thunderbird ?

    thanks a lot

I wasn't talking about the Junk Mail Controls component. I specifically talked about using the Message Filters component as did the URL that I pointed to.
