    Another Casino Palazzo Victim

My first attempt to post this didn't seem to work.

My problem looks to be similar to what many others are experiencing - home page redirection, spontaneous redirection to porn sites, popups.

I ran Ad-aware 6 and it cleaned up lots of things. I then ran Spybot, and it came up empty, which made me think I might have gotten it all.

But, the problem is still there today.

    Here's my log...

Re: Another Casino Palazzo Victim (update)

I sure hope someone can tell me what to do soon. I've just seen an alarming new wrinkle in this annoying browser hijacking.

Occasionally, I'm reduced to having to use a dial-up connection, like this morning. Shortly after launching IE, I noticed that my original dial-up connection had been replaced by something called 'jigalo.' A quick check of my connections proved that this was a new connection, and that the one I originally launched had been shut down.

Please - how do I get rid of this blight? o_O

Re: Another Casino Palazzo Victim (new log - still waiting for help)

Hey - what does it take to get help on this forum? I've seen lots of other later posts getting replies. Is it something I said?

Anyway - based on what I gleaned from help that OTHERS received, I downloaded and ran various spyware removal utilities, and hunted down and deleted some suspicious files. That seems to have stopped the worrisome behaviour (or maybe just driven it underground!)

Here's my most recent HijackThis log...

Disappointed in the lack of help

Well, despite 'bumping' my original post twice, and posting update logs, I'm still waiting for ANY help with my Casino Palazzo problem. :(

I may have been able to fix it on my own, but I'd sure like someone to look over the last log in my earlier post to confirm this.

One thing that concerns me is that Ad-aware keeps finding two restore references that it identifies as Cool Web Search objects. But, the files that are mentioned are nowhere to be found, and CW Shredder runs clean every time.

I've also installed SpyBlaster, which seems to be cutting down on the number of tracking cookies, etc. that I used to find when I ran Spybot or Ad-aware.

So -- what does it take to get help from someone who actually knows what they're doing?!

Re: Disappointed in the lack of help

    Hi,

As you can see, its VERY busy here :(

Posting multiple logs just means it is harder for us to keep track of your problems, and bumping the thread up to the top also makes things worse - most helpers start at the lower threads which is of course fairer

I'll see if I can remove/merge a couple of your duplicates for starters and see if I can help you. Doesnt that Casino thing have an uninstaller ? try to find it first, either within the program itself, or in the start menu > programs folder if it created one. Also look in Control Panel > Add/Remove programs :)

Thanks for the confirmation that things look clean. By way of explanation, the reason I posted multiple logs was that each one was different, since I had been applying some of the fixes that I read about in other threads re: the same hijack.

Overall, I found this to be a very useful learning experience, and I've installed some very useful new software (Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster, HiJack This, to name three.) I already had Spybot, but the new programs have really toughened up my defenses against unwanted intruders.

Again - thanks for the help. Let's hope I don't need it again.

    Peter
