It has been on-topic before, but it doesn´t hurt to remind that there´s an alternative to windows where the goal is to "...achieve complete binary compatibility with both applications and device drivers meant for NT and XP operating systems, by using a similar architecture and providing a complete and equivalent public interface" (source: http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html). In other words: it isn´t a clone to windows, but rather a windows replacement that behaves just like windows, running win32 software. It´s still in alpha stage (ver. 0.3.3) but it seems there will be a beta release next year.

    /C.

I saw this one a year or more back and found it interesting, but on further thought I wonder what's the point of creating another Windows, especially when this one appears to be taking forever and probably won't even be done till 2010.. I don't see why we need it or why anyone would use it... by the time it's finished, the rest of the world will have moved on to something entirely different, giving it the status of DOS in today's PC world.
