    Hi hayc59,

    If you do not use apps that require the .NET Framework (such as RegCompact), then it is not necessary to install it. As far as the USB driver is concerned, my preference would be to update it. Driver updates generally address known bugs, which I would want to avoid when transferring and storing files.

    I see. I was thinking about updating hardware drivers, not a drive manager application. I would install or update the app (and .NET Framework) if its extra or updated features are useful to you.

    I had .net1.1 installed and had only one prog that required it so I just deleted the one prog and uninstalled .net1.1 and found another prog that didn't need .net.

    That's right. That drive manager is not required to use your jump drive.

    You had me checking out that link Gordon, thinking I might need a new driver or something.... but it's not required. XP handles jump drives very well. I've got 3 and never had any probs. Some are slower/faster BTW, so a little homework may help. I've an IOMEGA that's heaps faster than a SANDISK for example.
    Also, if you're a FF fan;
    http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_firefox/ is a pretty nifty app. Carry your own browser on your drive to use on other 'boxes'....complete with bookmarks, settings etc.
    have fun,
    Brad.
