Ok,i'll give you example.
Your AVG is scheduled for daily defs check at lets say 14:00 PM.
AVG checks at that time and nothing new,but actual defs are released hour later at 15:00 PM. Now you missed those defs and you need to wait till NEXT day at 14:00 PM. Long timeframe isn't it?
avast! on other hand could also miss 14:00 PM update,but it will check after 4 hours again (or even 2 hours if you tweak it) so it will check it at 18:00 PM again (or tweaked at 16:00 PM). When it will check again at this time,it will find new defs and update them. It's like ~20 hour difference compared to AVG.
Not such a small timeframe...
This is certanly very important,so you are up-to-date in matter of hours,not days.
