This problem started this morning. YouTube won't load into latest Firefox (124.0.2) Chrome and Opera are both OK with YouTube using a similar set of extensions as used in FireFox. Starting two days ago YouTube pages would start but pause for a few seconds before resuming play. Is anyone else having this problem?
Do you use CanvasBlocker? If so, try disabling it and see what happens. I'm asking because a similar problem was mentioned here a couple of days ago: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...version-releases.361562/page-211#post-3190234 Solution: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...version-releases.361562/page-212#post-3190258
Disable half of extensions and restart Firefox. Then reenable them and disable the rest to narrow down
I found I needed to completely disable the extension (CanvasBlocker), not just disable it for YouTube. If that doesn't work it might be another extension. Try disabling all, then enable one by one. Good luck.
Thanks @Krusty and @reasonablePrivacy I was hoping to avoid that. BUT now I have a new problem. I use the FF Dark Theme. Now, suddenly I have a problem with it -- FF starts with the Dark Theme but as soon as I click on anything I lose Dark Theme and get a light colored theme which applies to everything including my bookmarks. Dunno what has caused FF to go wacky on me all of a sudden.
Hmm, don't know either. I use Dark Theme and Dark Reader Add-on, which I disable for YouTube. Might be a time for a refresh of Firefox.
Extension named "Disable JavaScript" was the culprit. Dunno why -- I've been using that extension for years.
I'm glad you've found the culprit. I'm currently using only four extensions, so it probably wouldn't take long to find the culprit if I had similar problems, I guess.
I noticed that I could play YouTube in FF Private Window so all I had to do was go through my extension list to see which extensions were not allowed in Private Window Now my big problem is not being able to use Dark Theme in FF. I have vision problems and if I can't use Dark Theme in FF I won't be able to use FF. I set Themes for Dark Theme--FF opens with Dark Theme but as soon as I click on anything FF reverts to a bright white and pastel colored theme.

Thanks again @Buddel But my problem is not with web sites. They show fine in all dark. My problem is with FireFox itself -- tabs, bars, bookmarks do not keep dark after I click anything.
Thanks @Dragon1952 FWIW: Disable JavaScript is still available for download from the FireFox Extension Site. However, it does carry a not atypical warning that: "This add-on is not actively monitored for security by Mozilla. Make sure you trust it before installing."
I notice that the Firefox Dark Theme was updated just yesterday, the day my problems started. Something got broke with the update.
Not sure of this now. I downloaded another dark theme and the same thing happened. It appears what is happening for me is that no added theme survives the first click-on anything.
So far not having an issue with dark theme, but with Google/YouTube RESTRICTED MODE setting. Unable to slide button on/off. If it's left in ON position the results are hidden comments on videos. Has to do with secure DNS settings in the browser and the provider you use. Don't recall having to change my DNS over HTTPS setting in browser in order to see comments posted on YouTube videos.
Thanks @ Compu KTed. I have identified the culprits: Colorful Tabs extension was preventing FF from holding the Dark Theme. HTTPS Everywhere extension was preventing FF from displaying YouTube videos and still images on most sites.
this do not undermine the current security set of mozilla. monitored extensions have a special manual review because they are sensitive, like adblockers. if google has removed that one they either dont want blocked javascript - which makes idd no sense in current times. or it contained suspicious code either for spying or not allowed tracking. and google store is pain from my view. i trust extensions when available on AMO and on google store from same author. and in fact you can download both as zip or xpi and compare content after extracting (its all ZIP type). your issues do not have nothing in common, no one knows what you have tried to mess up your profile. use a backup if you have but fixing without any knowledge is not possible. is not needed for firefox. very simple. same for any canvasblocker.
Glad to hear you found the sources of the problem. HTTPS Everywhere as Brummelchen stated probably not needed in Firefox. Thought EFF deprecated that plugin anyway.
