Interesting...I downloaded the portable version, and so far it has been running for about 2.5 hrs...one detection, so far.
Ouch! On a 2 Terabyte drive here, it only took 8 minutes start to finish.. Maybe that unsupported vaporware Admuncher, or Bugroot are conflicting? hehe
Yes, this is something I also don´t like about these cloud based scanners. Besides, I almost never scan my whole system. VirusTotal Uploader is enough for me.
I installed herd Protect a few days ago, and it found 8 or 9 false positives. I reported them to herd Protect and they don't appear anymore in a scan today. Does herd Protect report them to the scanners that found them, or do they have their own way of marking them as FP's?
There is an incompatibility in your system that is causing this. I came across similar where the scanner got stuck on certain files that are part of some 3rd party softwares could be locked and herd protect freezes there. But after cleaning windows and uninstalling junk third party softwares REMENANTS, and now herd protect scans my 1 terabyte HD in less then 5 minutes. I suggest you do a deep clean reg and pc junk scan first.
Many thanks to Taleblou for starting a thread on this one! I like the name of the product also. It's catchy, and has some meaning behind it. I ran a scan about an hour ago, and it found quite a few files that were flagged as unknown status more or less. I looked through them all, and i'm sure all of them are safe & legit. The first scan took quite a long time, but i'm sure the next one will be quick since the first scan found a lot of files that needed to be analyzed by the cloud. I can understand some users concern about privacy. Let's put it this way; I would not go, and scan my pdf copies of my tax returns with it. Knowingly doing something like this would be reckless to begin with, but someone could very easily do it by accident. I would suggest they encrypt, or store sensitive files in a location that does not get scanned. I will definitely be adding this one to my security setup.
taleblou Said I wasn't aware of that ! They need to update their www then, as it's still from 2k13 & showing 5 AV's http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro Misleading or ?
Kind of useless now.. Kind of sad.. Wonder why it's declined so much? I had serious licensing issues with them, and how they limit installations. I would never recommend HMP because of the draconian DRM, and I suspect that helped kill the product. HerdProtect is much better these days, so whatever. When he adds a realtime module to HerdProtect it will likely be my primary protection product.
I don't think so. Two top-notch AV. http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php?chart=chart2&year=2014&month=3&sort=1&zoom=3 http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php?chart=chart1&year=2014&month=3&sort=1&zoom=3 Less is more, IMHO.
Again, what's the point? You can find free, or non-demand versions of that stuff elsewhere. Even HerdProtect (free) covers those already. So I really don't see any point of HMP, and kind of feel bad for people that spent money on it.. It's best feature was the fact that it had a wide array of engines. It was pretty sweet getting Ikarus and Dr.Web in a product! So it's irrelevant now.
I don't like that either. Only three activations and then you have to ask them for each new activation after OS reinstall. They should make this process automatic. I also get BSOD if I use Direct disk access option. IMO it's still good second opinion AM and I use it next to MBAM and EEK.
Herd's heuristic engine, based on heuristics/machine learning from 68 engines, and 'should I remove it' programs... Problem solved.
Wow, my system is heavily infected! I mean 19 detections, that Avast (custom install), Avira (custom install), Hitman Pro, MBAM, Panda Cloud, CCE (Comodo), and EEK (Emsisoft) missed! Guess those extra 60 engines must make a ton of difference! On a more serious note, the lack of a custom scan is what prevents me from keeping this product. Really, I never tire of more scanners that fit my criterias.
Well I would say that they herd protect result in your PC was excellent, it has detected and identify correctly 19 file PUP's related (toolbars) and categorize them correctly, then is up to you to decide if you want to keep it or not. Then there are 3 unclassified (I'm not sure what it means exactly) and 1 Inconclusive... but herd protect is not tagging it as malware. Anyway this is a beta version and they are continuously tweaking the way the engines are used and configuring them and filtering the result to avoid future FP's. They control the results so if only 1 or 2... engines detects a malware by using heuristics and the file is 1 year old then the result won't be used because most probably this is an FP. So they will tweak with hundreds of rules the results, is not like whatever the AV says about the file is reported to the user. Probably my example was a very simplistic rule and what they are doing is much more advance This is their "official" answer when I contacted them about this issue:
Correctly? You mean Panda URL Filtering is somehow a PUP or toolbar? It's funny how 68 AV's detect components of other AV's. They say to re-run the scan in a hour and a half, but I don't feel like bothering. The unclassified and inconclusive are all part of pre-installed software/drivers. I've heard of news about a complimentary product to AV's, which I'm looking forward to.
