All, I have been using my Buffalo router (WHR-HP-G54 Wireless-G MIMO) (with latest Tomato firmware) as a hardware firewall for some time.

Is there any practical benefit for me as a home user to picking up a ZyXEL ZyWALL 2 Plus to use as a firewall instead of the Buffalo?

Right now, I "VPN" into my home using OpenSSH. I note the ZyWall is IPSEC-based.

    Thank you.

Not really, for a home user it will be a very small increment in meaningful security.

But if you are a SOHO user and have some business setup you desire to protect, L2TP-IPSEC VPN would be much more industrial-grade secure. And a dedicated IPS & Firewall will also supplement.
