Do I need PG if I have ZoneAlarm PRO 6? Is there any kind of conflicts using both?

    Hi Live

I'm using ZA Pro 6, & now on my 4th day getting to know PG ver 3.150. ZA & PG get along very well, no problems! Do you need PG? How much protection are you comfortable with? What surfing habits do you have? Add RegDefend RD. That would be 3 applications working at the most privledged area, of your cpu ring 0. What other protection do you have?

    Regards

    Hi Live

It's a little hard to say whether or not you need it.

I've known some people who own a computer without ever getting infected for years, and all they have is a firewall and an AV...however, they surfed only a limited number of safe sites, rarely downloaded anything, and rarely installed anything new.

Risky behaviours : P2P (esp downloading exe's), downloading game cracks, downloading & running any exe, surfing porn sites, receiving & openning email or IM files, annoying script kiddies in chat rooms, internet banking, purchasing online.

If you do one or more of the above, then it's a good idea to be more concerned about your security :)

I do have some free suggestions for you (you may have already done these)

    If you use IE :
    - install a Hosts file (like MVPS)
    - install IE-SPYAD
    - install SpywareBlaster
    - Harden your IE settings (this is probably the most important bit)
None of the above things use any computer resources, and they'll increase the security of your computer whilst surfing the net dramatically.

Alternatively, install a browser like Mozilla Firefox, or Opera. <Can still use a Hosts file and SpywareBlaster with Firefox>
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, you do need to know that PG has a weakness, in that you will probably find that you will switch it off whilst doing an installation of a program.

That said, I use PG and am quite happy with it. I know that before I hardened my browser settings, 2 spyware tried to install to my computer. I say 'try' because my spyware scanners only found 'parts' of the spyware (one was CoolWebSearch), but not the executables. I was running PG & PrevX Pro at the time. I don't know of anything that's tried since I started using ShadowUser though (because all changes get wiped every reboot...although I do have excluded directories which allow limited changes)
