How do I create a new rule and add a port to an application?

To create a new rule for an application, follow the steps in this KB Article:

How do I create a firewall rule to allow / disallow use of a certain application? (5.x)

or follow the steps below:

Open the main program window by double-clicking the ESET icon next to the system clock or by clicking Start > All Programs > ESET > ESET Smart Security.

Press the F5 key on your keyboard to access the Advanced setup window or go to 'Setup' in the menu on the left and click the link 'Enter advanced setup...'

In the Advanced setup tree expand 'Network' and click 'Personal firewall'

Select 'Automatic mode with exceptions (user-defined rules)' from the Filtering mode drop-down menu.

In the Advanced setup tree, expand 'Personal firewall' and click 'Rules and zones.'

Click 'Setup...' in the Zone and rule editor.

Click 'New' in the Zone and rule setup window.

Enter a name for your rule and select 'Allow' from the Action drop-down menu.

Click the Local tab.

Click 'Browse...' and navigate to the location of the application you wish to create the rule for. Select the application and click 'Open.'

Make sure you see For every next to the Remote side: and Local side: port settings and click 'OK' to create the new rule.

or follow the steps below:

Open the main program window by double-clicking the ESET icon in your Windows notification area or by clicking Start > All Programs > ESET > ESET Smart Security.

From the main menu, click 'Setup' > 'Network.'

Click 'Switch to interactive filtering mode.'

Click 'Configure rules and zones....'

Click 'Toggle detailed view of all rules.'

Click 'New' to add a new rule.

Type a name for the rule into the Name field.

Select 'Both' from the Direction drop-down menu.

Select 'Allow' or 'Deny' from the Action drop-down menu, depending on whether or not you which to block or allow this specific port.

Click the Local tab and click 'Add port.'

Type the number of the port into the Number field in the Port selection window. The name of the port will auto-populate in most cases. If it does not auto-populate, you can select the port name associated with the port number that you entered from the Name drop-down menu. When you are finished, click 'OK.'

Click OK, then 'OK' again to save your changes.

Click 'Switch to automatic filtering mode with exceptions.' After doing so, the rule that you created for the specific port number will be applied.
