I tried to upgrade to the 3.1 freeware version of Z/A, followed your upgrade instructions re: running the "unwise.exe" program. After I reboot, the damn thing puts the internet connection box on my desktop, what gives?
Hi glib, The actual key to successfully uninstalling ZAF is making sure it is fully shutdown before doing the uninstallation. The key points are: 1. going into the ZAF > Overview > Preferences screen and unchecking the option that says "Load ZoneAlarm at startup" 2. Then reboot the system. Then finally running the uninstall procedure. ZA deinstall issues are almost always due to not getting a clean removal of the programs because they are locked while they are still running. Or, attempting to kill ZA via Ctrl-Alt-Del, or trying to stop its services or remove the programs from the registry startup keys manually. The actual Zone Labs removal instructions are here for ZAF: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/support/znalmInstallFAQ.jsp You may be able to walk through the instructions again to clean it up. (You might need to install and then remove again, if you don't want to manually clean up the installation issues.) As far as putting the internet connection box on the desktop - that's not something I've ever heard of before. ZA doesn't actually interface with the network connectiods. And I've never experienced anything like that myself, either. Is your Internet connection (now on the desktop) actually a problem right now? Can't you just move it back to where it was - or is that one just a copy perhaps of the original?
