When I am unable to get yum to do its job and there are errors, I fix all problems with

    yum clean all
    yum makecache
    yum update

However I am left with these .rpmnew files :-

Question is what does one do with them ? As I understand it they are for users protection in so far as the original config files continue to be used and nothing is overwritten ? can i just leave them and if so I assume that the priorities set originally for the repos will be honored ?
