I've been infected by yuhmee.com. I just installed a fresh copy of xp on this computer and all that I have installed are MS office and Micrographix Draw. I have also downloaded all the windows updates, ad-aware 6.0 and NAV. I had a sound problem and in the course of fixing it I did a system restore and redownloaded media player 9.0. After that I started getting the yuhmee.com login screen. It is really annoying and it is really slowing down my system especially the browsing to critical sites. I have downloaded hijackthis and ran it. Before that I ran a scan with NAV and Ad-aware. Here is the log from hijackthis:

    Hi Jeepster,

    No, you did fine.

Your version of windows and IE is not showing being updated.

You need to update your copy of Windows and IE by going HERE before doing anything else. This will help cut down on your chances of reinfestation.

After getting up to date, post a new HJT log.

    Regards,
    Kent

    Hi Jeepster,

    Strange...

Your Windows and IE still do not show as being up to date.

    And your log looks clean.

If you are sure your Windows and IE are up to date, then I will have to wait for Pieter or one of the other Experts here to help...... Someone should be by shortly but due to time zone differences it could take 12 hours or so....

Just in case, download this Zip File.
    Unzip it to the desktop.
Be sure to have at least one internet explorer open.
    Double click on the runme.bat
Notepad will open with a log in it.
Please copy and paste the log into this post.

    Regards,
    Kent

HI Jeepster, WELCOME TO WILDERS :) :) :)

You may not realize it now, but you are blessed on arrival here. ;)
    I had simular problems with that ****** yuhmee.com, which brought me to Wilders;
since then I have learned so much about spyware and internet-security, that I can only be thankful of being 'infected'.

Please be patient-you've come to the right place: Expert-help is on its way!
Pieter Arntz (or any of the other moderators) will help you soon.
Because I still consider myself a student on security-issues I can only refer to my entry (here:http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=22656) for learning/insight purposes.
Don't do anything hasty-follow the experts and you'll be fine and happy :D again.

    Hope to see you around!
(But beware of the Wilders-addiction! ;))

    Regards,
    Slammer

    Hi Jeepster,

I am going to have you use HJT to generate a StartupList. Follow the steps below.

    Run HJT.
    Click "Config...".
    Click "Misc Tools".
Put Checks by the following two items:
    "List also minor sections (full)"
    "List empty sections (complete)".
Click "Generate StartupList log" and then "Yes" to continue.
Copy and paste the contents of the log here.

    Regards,
    Kent

Just in cast this matters even though I dont see how,

This computer is one that I am setting up for my mom and it is temporaraly hooked up to my home network.
Also when I installed XP Pro I formatted the drive just to make sure that I had a clean start but now when I boot up the system asks me to select which operating system to run (XP Pro or ME which was the old system). I have set up 6 different computers and I had never had that happen to me. If I select XP Pro it boots up fine but if I select ME it says that the operating system could not be found.

Again I Don't think any of this info is relative but thought I would post it just in case.....

    Hi Jeepster,

Can you check if there is a folder called ddm in C:\Program Files
And find C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\hosts and rename it to hosts.bak

    Does that help?

    Regards,

    Pieter

Can you check the size of the hosts(.bak) file for me?
If it is not too big I'd like to have a look at it.

    Regards,

    Pieter
