We need laws forcing companies to keep it private and delete it as soon as it is no longer needed, and laws giving us the right to delete our data from third-party sites. Hi dw426,

So, you would rather quit? Your approach is very negative, and it would appear you only are able to see things in a black/white landscape kind of way. You have painted yourself into a corner and there is nowhereelse to turn - i.e. you are incapable of "Moving on" according to your approach.

Just saying - that is how I perceive your take on the issue at hand. Giving up preempts your choices and binds you to a limited way of thinking. Truth - I suspect you know very little about it. Chance - why leave things to chance? Forget it - never.

Look, whether you like it, whether Schneier likes it, whether anybody likes it, privacy is not just going away on a daily basis, it's gone. We haven't had it for years now, it does not exist, face it, accept it, and work around it. So, while your reply sounds like a really great line in a heroic scene of a movie, if you think any erasure of privacy can or will be undone, you're living in a fantasy. I'll tell you the same thing I tell others who decide they're suddenly going to "crusade for our rights", get rid of all your tech and move out in the country. Otherwise, sorry, privacy is dead. Also, if you truly do think you can reverse the trends by the "power of the people", go tell your elected officials that, not a forum.

I'm sorry if that all sounded rude, but too many people are blind to what's going on, or they simply don't give a crap because their favorite TV show will be on soon so they "just can't make that call to their Congressman tonight, but by golly they will tomorrow, they'll give 'em a piece of their mind!"....if nothing is on tomorrow night that is. They also, especially in America, seem to still think they are the boss of the president and Congress, that THEY are the ones to be listened to....I find that hilarious. Okay, enough off-topic politics. Privacy is dead, get over it and work through it.

I believe that yours is a negative approach, and especially it is WRONG. Not only it is wrong the approach, but also it is wrong to share it with others who just don't feel like giving up on their rights just because it looks too hard to stand up for them.
I live in a country that does have some issues reguarding privacy and politics, but I don't give up my hope and my fights. And if many other people like me weren't fighting for our rights (and I am not only talking about right to privacy), things would get even worse. Unfortunately, even here, there are too many of you, many who simply gave up.

In case you were wondering, I am from Italy.
