    I don't think there is any point in being a tin foil hat conspiracy theorist. Everyone on the Internet is monitored 24-7... so what? I'm not totally disconnecting myself from the Internet...you just have to be cautious and not reveal personal info about yourself online.

    The gist of the article was to do something proactive to decrease the "spam factor" of joining websites, etc.

    I have one email one website policy. I just simply remove the email if they bother me with spam.
