I was told that if you were to DISABLE the Indexing Service in XP (My Computer > your drive > properties > General tab > UNCHECK "Allow Indexing Service to Index this disk for fast file searching") would IMPROVE system performance.

I've read this on several XP "Tweak" sites (almost all recommended to disable this feature).

Can some of you more knowledgeable folks please tell me if this is recommended or not. Thanks.

If you do not search files in your computer, then you really do not need it.
Indexing files will only help to find searched files in 5 sec instead of 10 sec.

I've done it. No noticeable ill effects. Maybe a little faster (the pc) but not a huge difference.
