Hello! Pieter and Unzy...you come highly recommended...from all over the internet! You do good work..you are the antithesis of the lowlifes behind spam&bots&worms&hijacks et al.

I am xlimed and offeroptimizer to death...sometimes the pop-upblocker (AdsGone) sounds like a machine gun, blocking hundreds at a time!
My high school daughter needs a clean computer to do her work..here's hoping you can help me and her!

I ran Hijack This..here is the log...can you assist?
    Thank you gentlemen!

Restart PC into Safe Mode : Here's How and remove (if still present) :

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\bridge.dll <- this file
    C:\WINDOWS\Belt.exe <- this file
    c:\docume~1\jerry\locals~1\temp\msbb.exe <- this file
    C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer\ <- this folder
    C:\WINDOWS\MWEOYJTBL.exe <- this file
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\a.exe <- this file
    C:\WINDOWS\orwn.exe <- this file
    C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe <- this file
    C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\ <- this folder
    C:\Program Files\Save\ <- this folder

    ....so far, so good, Unzy!!
I was unable to delete only TWO of the files you mentioned..>>
(and, why can't I delete 'em?!...why am I "denied access"!?)

    C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe <- this file
    C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\ <- this folder

...will these 2 cause any problems?
...what should I do to prevent future hijacking??

Thank you for your invaluable assistance!

    Hi Jerry,

You should be able to delete the sysupd.exe file, and the ISTsvc folder while in safe mode. Try booting your computer into safe mode by tapping the F8 key just before Windows begins to load, then find and delete the sysupd.exe file and the ISTsvc folder.

Please post another hijackthis log too. :)

    Regards,

    snap

    hehe :D

A good idea ,some really nice info there! Actually it's TonyKlein's topic ;)

Almost there , they still need another kick/fix :

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SysUpd] C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IST Service] C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe

Fix with hijackthis, restart PC again in safe mode

Via windows explorer browse to and delete :

    C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe <- this file
    C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\ <- this folder

ISTsvc can be a pain to remove

Additionally do this while still in safe mode :

    Open registry :

press start -> run -> type regedit and press enter

    press ctrl+f

In the searchbox copypaste : ISTsvc

rightclick + delete all references found , Note : doublecheck it is ONLY ISTsvc that you delete, nothing else!

    Press F3 to find next

    Close registry

    Clean temp internet files

    Restart again in normal mode

Check with a new hijackthis scan those two entries are not showing up again

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

That seemed to do it, Unzy!
Seems very 'clean & fresh' around here!
No pop ups lately...no xlimeofferoptimizers (those people should be killed)
After regedit tho, I DID find these two 50 byte 'files' on my desktop...anything?

    backup-20040529-201224-157
    backup-20040529-201224-853

If not, will delete and sail on from there!
    I sing your praises!

    Hi Jerry,

    Glad to hear that

Those two backup files are created by HijackThis, in case something went wrong, you are able to use restore function.

When you verified all is running well again you can safely remove these.

It's best to put install HijackThis in a seperate folder, that's where the backups will be in then as well.

    Hope all is well again

    Cheers,

    Please download this :

    http://tools.zerosrealm.com/startchmfix.exe

Download it. Run it and extract the folder to the desktop preferably.

    Open the folder after extracted.

    Double click the fix.bat

Please make sure all Internet Explorers are closed.

Only run it once or you will lose the backups although they shouldn't be needed.

After doing so do a search for the following file(s) (via start -> search -> files/folders) :

    mtwirl.dll / mtwirl32.dll

    If found download KillBox :

    KillBox

Open it and in the box type the exact location and name of the dll and select kill file

    Restart PC after doing so

    Keep us posted

    Cheers,
