Since Ubuntu upgraded to 12.10 is the xfce 4.8 environment going to update on Ubuntu 12.04 or do I have to install xfce 4.10 manually. I am using xfce 4.8 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS .
You can install XFCE 4.10 on Xububtu 12.04 LTS from ppa. https://launchpad.net/~xubuntu-dev/ archive/xfce-4.10 It can be backported to the LTS version. Or you can upgrade to Xubuntu 12.10, which officially supports it.
yes ppa will add new xfce you can also try cinnamon ppa http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/09/20/install-cinnamon-1-6-in-ubuntu-12-04-lts/ also for safe side try it on live cd/dvd if you like it go for it if dont
update i download and install xfce 4.10 but its not awesome i mess with unity a lot so i am downgrading it and uninstalling xfce from my desktop
Thanks good to know.I will stay the way it is.But In another post I asked about LXDE on Ubuntu 12.04,does it work?
to be honest mixing desktop environment always mess specialy with unity if you dont want unity thats diffrent thing i suggest stick with what ever work best with your system LXDE is not as fast or better as xubuntu also its made for low end system with less ram you should try lubuntu 1st and see if you like maybe then. here i uninstall xubuntu and cinnamon still my unity is messy now i am ending up reformating my system because of driver problem too so i suggest not to experiment on system
if you want to go for new go for full distro upgrade or install xfce/lxde and try pure ones example xubuntu instead of ubuntu + xfce
I agree -- v4.10 isn't remarkably different/better Yes, for a new install I agree with this recommendation.
