I wish to ask why when using centrally managed settings from the WSA Web Console, if your select "Maximum" it only puts the sliders half way. I would like maximum to be a true maximum and not a semi average setting. :thumb:

    Because people are dumb.

Literally. That is not a jibe or an attack.

"Maximum" was added to specifically keep people from putting all the sliders up all the way. People who put the sliders up all the way will get a lot of side effects that are not always good and often can be very bad. For example, "Don't allow unknowns to run at all" may make some people think it's a GREAT idea... until the Windows Update fails when they are one of the first 100 people or so to get it and their system is hosed.

The root of the problem is that the sliders cause people to think it's a linear scale from 0-10, so to speak. That's not the case. The slider reaches "10" and then has more to go, which equate to "10 and also ~snipped as per TOS" and "10 but ask you every time which brings a user into the equation which actually reduces the protection in many cases" and "10 and also do this other thing which doesn't increase protection at all but makes the program more invasive at user request".

Just like "Best sound" is not when the dial is turned to 10. ^.^

I understand, but should that not be the person in charge of central managements choice? If it has a maximum setting, it should be maximum, not average. Why have a maximum option if its not maximum.

Its like me adding EASY MEDIUM AND HARD modes, and easy is actually super easy, medium is easy and hard is medium.

With the Online Helpfile it doesn't necessary say it turns everything to Max, it says "Maximum - Greatest protection if an infection is suspected" as you know even if all the sliders are to the full right you can still harden it even more which would make it user unfriendly for average and new users.

I would still like an option to put all the sliders up to full from the central managed console. If I want that option, I would have to go around all the computers and do it manually.

    Business Endpoint. ^.^

Unfortunately, when they gave people that option, they had way too many support calls resulting from it being set to that. It was too much a disservice to too many customers. Since they had to take the majority into account, it was removed.

I get penalized for the stupidity of others? That sounds about correct, Its just like the front page of YouTube. Because the masses seem to like twerking, miley cyrus and pewdiepie all of which, I despise. I have to deal with the consequences.

I seriously think it should be an option though, maybe bury it so the average user won't find it.

    Hi,

I just tested this out and the maximum setting changed my heuristic sliders to maximum as expected?

Once you have changed the setting in the PC Security console, then this might not be immediately picked up by the agent - therefore will require the agent to invoke communication with the cloud in order to apply this change. This will happen within 24 hours (max) if the agent is left to its own devices, but the easiest way to force this through immediately is to right-click the system tray icon on the updated PC and select "Check for updates".

I kinda figured out why this is happening. I have a 5-USR license and for some reason the console is kicking this computer out of the console and resetting my license to trial mode which is defaulting the configuration. I have no clue why and have had so many problems lately, I will just wait for 2014 and hope it fixes them. I also had the settings reset to default again a few minutes after setting them in the console. Its weird, but whatever.

Hmmm, this doesn't sound like the expected behaviour :(

I would try re-applying the keycode which can sometimes fix these sorts of issues - alternatively PM me your keycode, or the email address you login to your console with, and I'll see if I can spot anything obviously wrong.

If computers keep disappearing and reappearing into the console, this can sometimes be caused by two ghosted machines sharing the same configuration / hostname, etc.

I had problems with the console forgetting my password a year ago and prevxhelp issued me a new key to replace the one with the broken password. I am not sure if the new key caused issues, or what ever. prevxhelp is also issuing me another yearly key when 2014 comes out due to another unrelated WSA problem on my girlfriends computer.
