Shocked and saddened to say that I would not have spotted this fraud. :(

Thanks for bringing it to light.

Thanks for this, I will begin to be much more attentive. I would not have thought twice about using this ATM but I sure will pay much more attention in the future.

I dont think I would of spotted it eiether.
That is why its better to use atm machines inside buildings.

in the UK quite a few shops now have atm machines inside such as whsmith.

    Great follow-up, Ronjor!! :)

So banks got to write off over a billion dollars because of ATM skimming in 2008?

I agree with some of the posters, it's coming out of our pockets, not the banks...
It must be nice to just write off that much money..instead of DOing something about the theft!

    Obscene, is what that is...

    Those are very sophisticated devices.
Very hard to say one could "spot" the skimmer :doubt:

Heh heh :shifty: wonder how I'll get along at the bank when I take to the ATM with a screw driver to check integrity of the ATM hw.

Wouldn't it be a simple process for anyone to take a picture of the ATM in place, which you always use, and save for a comparison or especially by those who load the ATM with cash?
If their is a mismatch, call it in. Don't load with money.

And people using ATM's; If their is graffiti on an ATM, more than likely it is out of sight and out of mind.
Where I grew up they would throw balls at a house with a sensitive alarm, continually setting it off until the police were tired of responding then the house was robbed.
If taggers arent hassled by anyone for defacing an ATM then it is a target for installing a skimmer.

Also check the Part II of that post. It has more example of cleverly made atm skimmers
