    WinPatrol v31.0.2014
    June 3rd, 2014

    SQLite Database
Both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome use a public domain database called SQLite. To properly monitor these and future browsers WinPatrol also uses SQLite, WinPatrol has been using a library SQLite3.DLL, provided by the developers of SQLite. In our new version, we've included the source code for the SQLite functions we need into WinPatrol. Adding the source code directly we have more control over accessing data and can also optimize the code to improve performance. We can also remove any extra code which isn't required so less memory is used.
You may notice in the WinPatrol list of hidden files many files that begin with "etilqs" followed by random characters. These are SQLite files as you may notice etilqs is SQLite backwards.
    Pale Moon
Many browsers use Mozilla as the core of their functionality. Recently, many WinPatrol users have requested support for a Mozilla browser, Pale Moon. This browser will now automatically be detected so cookies stored by Pale Moon will be managed by WinPatrols view cookies and real-time filtering feature.
Pale Moon will also be listed as a browser in the standard WinPatrol Report.
    New Icons
The Scotty system tray icon is easier to see with a new traditional Scotty icon on a blue tile background. The Blue Orb icon introduced when our original icon was hard to view on Vista will no longer be used. This will also mean we won't need the option to use our old traditional Scotty icon.
For anyone with a Start Menu, you'll also find more readable tile icons for WinPatrol, WinPatrol Explorer, Uninstall and Help.
    Safe Update Version Info
Our Safe Update button will now include version information for security programs Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Microsoft Security Essentials where appropriate.
    Server Optimization
WinPatrol v31 now optimizes communication with our server when a severe attack occurs. While WinPatrol will never create enough traffic to hurt your local network our new optimization will make sure you have all the bandwidth you need.

Installed, with reboot: Permanent System tray - Blue orb. When WinPatrol is opened - Blue tile background in tab.
.Exe file - Gold, visible in Private Firewall applications, downloads.

System: Windows XP SP3, Avast free, EMET 4.1, WinPatrol Plus, PFW

I like the blue orb...hope it stays.

Is there a way to put the blue tile in the taskbar instead of the gold one? I can pin the blue one to the taskbar left side, but the one that loads with startup on the right side is the gold one. I am being difficult - would like the blue one on the right side at startup. Surely there is a way to do this?

sshot-1.jpg you can use resource hacker and follow the guide here
    http://www.howtogeek.com/75983/stupid-geek-tricks-how-to-modify-the-icon-of-an-.exe-file/
It would be great if there was an inbuilt thing in winpatrol giving you the choice of the custom icon ,as i too am not fussy on the gold icon as it doesnt go with my colour scheme.I feel a bit silly moaning about it as win patrol is great and bill is a top gent, but i have altered mine to blue tile rather than the gold tile.I would imagine you would have to do this again after any program updates though.

Thanks - looks fairly simple. Appreciate the info.

Update - this simpleton can not seem to follow instructions adequately enough to accomplish the color change - lol! Will just "hide" icon until something different is offered - or forever.

1.Navigate to your program files>bilp studios>winpatrol>and right click winpatrol.exe (make sure winpatrol is exited)
2.right click the file and "open using resource hacker"
3.Click icon group then Click "action" tab
    4.Click "replace icon"
5.The window that opens should show the gold icon numbered 1....this is the icon thats going to be replaced..
6.Click "open file with new icon" (top left) from same window ,and click winpatrol .exe in that window. You should now see a window with the gold icon on the right panel and on the left panel.Pick an icon from the left panel (159 is the blue square one) ,and click replace.
7.In the the window that now pops up showing info about the icons size and number of colurs ,just click file >save .
That should have changed your icon. You should also now see in your win patrol folder win patrol.exe and winpatrol _original.exe.If you wish to change icons again delete the winpatrol.exe file (obviously make sure winpatrol is exited and not running),then rename the winpatrol _original.exe ,to winpatrol.exe (this restores the original gold default) and repeat the icon change steps.

ellison - thanks for the good detailed instructions - everything goes as instructed until I get to Step 7. When I click file>save, I get the screen below saying "Cannot rename original file. Saving cancelled."

I obviously am doing something wrong or missing something, but I know not what. I applied run as administrator but color still doesn't change. Everything else is exactly as you instructed.

No, I shut WinPatrol down before trying this. UAC may have something to do with it - not sure. It doesn't really matter - I will live with yellow . I really appreciate your response and effort to help. Have a good day!

If anyone sees a post about free WinPatrol PLUS codes, the promotion is bogus. BillP posted the following the Facebook Group:

Thanks, Corrine for posting this clarification. I know BillP from way back and he is a very honorable guy. I'm sure he doesn't need this additional worry. Appreciate you getting the real info out to us.
