WinFindr 1.7 has been released. Its main improvements over the previous version are: Greatly improved the support for searching for text inside PDF files. It’s now possible to search for files based on the file attributes. The results list now shows more information about the found items - but you can also choose to see only a minimal amount of information, it’s up to you. I'm testing this out. I can definitely see the registry search being useful. Much more useful than searching in regedit. Looking good so far. Edit: It does not prompt for admin on launch but does not work correctly without it.
What do you mean by not working correctly without it? The program doesn't force admin rights by design, to allow also non-admin users to use it. In this mode, it will naturally only find data that can be found by non-admin users. If you want it to run with admin rights, you can set that via Windows Right Click > Properties and always run as admin.
It seems Windows is not allowing the non-admin process to write to disk. I would recommend you to use the Right Click > Properties option to tell Windows to always run it as admin. The program doesn't automatically do this (i.e. force admin level access), because many users don't want this to happen. This way when the program runs as a normal user level program, the user can decide whether it should be run as an admin or not.
It's easy enough to change the shortcut properties to always run as admin which is most likely the way I would run it. I was just reporting this as it does it every time it is run as a standard user. Didn't know if you wanted to do anything to address it (change the save location, suppress the error, etc.) as some users may perceive this to be something wrong with the program. It does run the search after dismissing the error.

If you buy the Pro version, it supports the product's development. There are no feature limitations in the free version.
I have only tried the portable version, which I have read is the same as the setup version. For the setup version, I think to make a search tool really handy, it needs to provide an option for a tray icon to make it easily accessible. I wouldn't want that on the portable version though, unless it was an optional setting.
