    hi
i used ccleaner and xp remove hotfix backup to delete the backups after an update

now i'm under windows 7 and it very often downloads and install hotfixes

now i have a lot of backups and the size of them increase days after days

i'm looking for a tool to get rid of these backups

ccleaner and xp remove hotfix backup don't work under w7
i mean ccleaner in w7 has not enabled (not included )this feature

    thanks

Well, deleting %WINDIR%\$NtUninstallKB123456$ directories doesn't look exactly like rocket science to me? If you want to delete the corresponding entries from Add/Remove programs as well, CCleaner should still be able to do this via Uninstall - Delete entry tab.

    are you sure?

because it's strange that ccleaner can do it under w7
can ccleaner remove hotfixes under vista?

    thanks

I never used CCleaner to remove any hotfixes. It can remove uninstall entries from the registry for sure, so that they won't get displayed in the control panel. The rest can be perfectly well done manually.

Oh... must have been a serious misunderstanding. Though you have some upgrading junk from XP left on your system. With Vista/W7, you can't do any such thing like remove hotfix "backup" files. Vista SP1/SP2 have a standalone tool to remove unneeded cruft (making the SP uninstall impossible of course) - it's vsp1cln.exe for SP1 and compcln.exe for SP2.

As for hotfixes, the hotfix installers are stored in %WINDIR%\Installer, and that's pretty much it. The rest of stuff goes to WinSxS folder and I'd strongly discourage anyone from messing with (mostly) the hardlink structures there in any way.
